Alpine Library Topping Off Ceremony… A Success for the Community

On October 1st the Design build team of CW Driver, Ferguson Pape Baldwin Architects and Manuel Oncina Architects celebrated the Topping out of the Alpine Branch Library. Structural engineering was completed by Hope-Amundson Structural Engineers. The dynamic 13,000 SF structure will be the first Zero Net Energy building for the County of San Diego. The library will officially open its doors to the public Spring 2016.

Celebrating Ken Baldwin’s Contributions to FPBA!

Ferguson Pape Baldwin Architects (FPBA) announces Kennon Baldwin’s retirement after 38 years in practice as one of San Diego’s most dedicated contributors to the Life Science community.  Ken will be completing his active career at FPBA this autumn.  FPBA President Jim Ferguson says “We are grateful for Ken’s leadership to FPBA and his commitment to design and professional service in the architectural community throughout his long career.” “After 38 years with our Firm, and with the outstanding job Principals Jim Ferguson, Phil Pape and Andy Darragh have each done over the past 5 years to grow our practice and apply the values first championed by our founder, Jim McGraw, it is time for me to step back.  I have every confidence Jim, Phil and Andy will continue to expand our areas of practice while ensuring the highest level of professional service to our many long-standing clients,” said Ken Baldwin. Baldwin has served as President and Principal of FPBA and includes among his many projects the Elephant Odyssey at the San Diego Zoo, campus expansions for Sanford Burnham Medical Research Institute, the College Rolando Branch Library, the headquarters for the Grossmont Healthcare District as well as numerous commercial projects, research laboratories and biotechnology production facilities.  He is a co-founder of the San Diego Chapter of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering, plans to continue in his role as a Life Director of Biocom and remain an active advisor to the firm as Principal Emeritus.

FPBA Participates in San Diego’s 7th Annual Tables for Tots!

Enjoying his new “Safari Kids” Jeep created by the FPBA staff! The Tables for Tots event was held at Westfield UTC and successfully raised $71,299 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in San Diego! Congratulations to our outstanding team for making this tot smile!

FPBA Wins Award of Merit for New Website!

Congratulations to FPBA who designed a fabulous new website recognized with an Award of Merit from SMPS San Diego! We had a great time at the gala last evening at the San Diego Public Library enjoying the company and amazing views of Downtown.

Texas A&M Pandemic Influenza Vaccine Manufacturing Facility Site Dedication

FPBA is proud to be an integral part of the design team for the Texas A&M Pandemic Influenza Vaccine Manufacturing Facility. The site dedication took place on September 18th, 2014 in College Station, Texas. Texas Governor Rick Perry, Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp,Texas A&M Health Science Center CEO Brett Giroir, M.D. and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) BARDA Director Robin Robinson, Ph.D., and representatives from the State of Texas and GSK all participated in the site dedication for the 100,000 SF facility currently under construction. The influenza-vaccine manufacturing facility will help bolster the nation’s preparedness and response to public health threats. On track for completion of construction by the end of 2015, the Pandemic Influenza Vaccine Facility will develop vaccines aimed at targeting pandemic influenza strains and will be able to produce up to 50 million influenza vaccine doses within four months of receipt of a virus strain.
